Solomon news
On this World Oceans Day, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is proud to release new footage from the surface and flanks of the volcano, showcasing the wealth of biodiversity there.
The proposed Kavachi Marine Management Area is a magical place, full of sea life nourished by nutrient-rich waters upwelled from the submarine volcano.
WCS Solomon Islands and our partners have been working to establish a marine managed area around this special place. We are grateful to support from the Blue Action Fund, Oceans5, the WCS MPA Fund, The University of Queensland, Solomon Islands Community Conservation Partnership, Corey Howell from Wilderness Lodge, and local communities from the weathercoast of Vangunu and Nggattokae Islands.
Video footage from Corey Howell. Post-production by Regina Lepping and background music was done by Warrior Rekordz.
